A Tale of Two Superheroes: SRK and Rajini

Shahrukh Khan and Rajinikanth: Everyone who keeps an eye on Bollywood websites or print columns knows that South Indian director Shankar had approached Shah Rukh Khan to play the lead role in ‘Robot’. The Baadshah of Bollywood was much interested in playing the superhero and he was also keen to work with this ace director. But somehow things didn’t fall in place and Shankar abandoned SRK. He went back to Chennai and signed up the biggest star of them all, Rajinikanth. The astounding success of ‘Robot’ in all the languages that is was dubbed in only goes to see just how much meat was there in the script.
Shah Rukh didn’t waste time pondering over what he lost out on. He quickly decided to make his own superhero flick, ‘Ra One’. Director Anubhav Sinha came on board and they shot extensively for the movie to eye a release in November 2011. The movie will have state-of-the-art graphics and action. Shah Rukh is leaving nothing to chance. He’s got the international music composer Hans Zimmer to do the background score for ‘Ra One’. Hans has done some amazing work in films like ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Inception’. SRK has also got Akon to do a song for the movie. But being a suave marketing person, Shah Rukh couldn’t resist watching ‘Robot’ to find out what worked for the film. He decided to spend an additional Rs. 3 crores to shoot a train sequence like the one in ‘Robot’, except that he’s making sure that they don’t look similar. He’s conducted brainstorming sessions with his team on this. Shah Rukh also has a score to settle with his rival in Bollywood, Aamir Khan and his bĂȘte noir Salman Khan. Both have surged ahead in popularity with ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Dabangg’. The winter of 2011 will belong to King Khan, what say?
